Last week, we travelled to Catalonia to visit different farms and learn about their aromatics cropping. We visited five farms, three are located in the province of Girona, one in Barcelona and the last one in Lleida, within the Pyrenees. The five farms differed greatly in terms of soil, climate and altitude, but they also had a number of points in common.

El Jardín de las Lilas is a family business dedicated to the cultivation of aromatic plants to produce hydrolates (herbal distillate) in the province of Girona. Among other species they grow old roses, lavender, geraniums, helichrysum, rosemary, sage, and thyme. It is a small-scale production; in total the cultivation of aromatic plants occupies between 2 and 3 hectares.

Read MoreMeet the new international group of students from Nigeria, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany and Denmark that has just started our Regenerative Agricultural Research Program. They will develop new research projects over the coming 4 months and are supervised and trained by a wide variety of local and international experts. Their projects are related to regenerative practices such as hedges & borders, groundcover, swales and silt traps but also to sustainable businesses such as local beer brewing and natural herbal tea making!
Read MoreLa Junquera farm hosted a first open day on the 9th of February with the goal of presenting the regenerative projects that are being conducted by students from Regeneration Academy and to show the project at Altiplano Ecosystem Restoration Camp to those interested. There was an amazing attendance of 67 people with a wide variety of visitors: younger and older visitors, farmers, agrarian consultants, students, teachers and a lot in between.
